    Seeing as how every starter ship comes with one at the very beginning, even when the ship is literally in shambles, yeah, I think they'd be common and easy to acquire. Plus, once you make one AI, it'd be cheap to copy it and send it around, wouldn't it?

    While they call it a ship "AI", it seems like it would be more akin to a "VI", tbh. At least for the sake of avoiding people using it as cop-outs for RP situations. Like... no using some sort of communicator to radio the AI of your ship for a quick pickup, orbital bombardment, etc.

    If a ship is capable of orbital bombardment, it would make a bit more sense that an actual AI is on board. But yeah, agreed, it's probably more apt to call them a virtual intelligence.
