I know reefpods grow on weird purple 'stalk' things that could quite possibly be made into a drug by the fruit itself has many uses on the serves in recipes and other things so it'd be hard to peddle it as a drug. That or possibly horribly under-ripe reefpods before they've chemically matured? They'd probably taste bitter though. [edit] Though generally hylotl eat reefpods, they could be like a drug to other races? Different things would affect everyone differently? So a non-hylotl eating/drinking something made with reefpod may get a high from it and in a more concentrated form, like dried and crushed up reefpod or the leaves, would give them a /much/ stronger high? Makes sense. Just has no affect on hylotl unless you ferment it and make it into alcohol.
What about Avesmingoes? They are supposedly able to taste like everything; what if it counts for effects aswell, where it can give different effects on the body? This could either be the Avesmingoes themselves or maybe even an entirely different strain where they have varying effects. Some of these may be considered "drug-like", triggering hallucinations or maybe boosting strength/dulling reactions (like steroids and what else is out there nowadays). This could possibly lead to a limit and restriction on what Avesmingoes can be sold and used openly. EDIT: Also on the note of effects on other races, one could further debate the use of Currentcorn. When examined, its said to contain acid. The question furthers with, what acid is it? Or what effects does the said acid have as well as basically burning your intestines?
Possibly? Though that sounds kind of confusing and would be hard to regulate in any way really. But it's a really cool concept none the less. I dunno how other feel about it.
What about Froffule? It's addictive, and induces sleep. I imagine if you smoke enough of it you could really screw up your brain. No? Ehhhh it's a kinda crummy suggestion, it sounds a bit nonlethal. http://community.playstarboundrp.com/threads/mysmarris-universal-plant-index.2378/
