Please tell us which lore states that, and link it. As far I know, an accident let them access to FTL, but there are no mentions of any war.
The blockade arrives promptly, but is of little effect. The Florans, in a move which the Avians would have never considered, activate the FTL drive on their new ship while it is still within FL1-4’s atmosphere, causing a gigantic explosion (razing approximately 3000km of forest) and allowing the Florans to slip right through the Avian blockade. ⁃ This triggers an ongoing conflict between the Avians and the Florans, with the Avians only trying to restrict the Florans to their home system (and maybe convince them to worship Kluex). The Florans, on the other hand, wish only to spread, multiply, and consume. Given that florans are not rare, and the game is full of floran NPC's floran villages and dungeons, I can only take from this that the avians failed.
They failed to contain, not losing any way. As I and others expected, that was going to be your reason to say 'They have lost a war". First, their homeworld is far away from Avos, and second, before stating that kind of stuff with official lore, make sure it's clear. I'm already tired to read/listen assumptions made by small events like the blockade. In any case, if the avians actually manage at some point to restrict them to their home system, that would be a win, but right now that would be also false. As far we know, Avians have their happy home systems and constant conflicts against florans, which in turn, are spreading elsewhere. Nothing states they are making any kind of big assault against said home systems. Right now, it mostly seems a tie.
I hear that slipping through defenses counts as winning a war. The Japanese won World War II against the Americans at Pearl Harbor, clearly.
Just wanted to say that the PDF this is from is considered non-canon now. Why? No idea. Chucklefish do what chucklefish does.
I'm lazy and don't feel like digging around the internet for sources, but I know I heard it from multiple people that it was non-canon at least. or i'm being a dum right now, that's also a very strong possibility.

It depends what the objectives were of each side, and what the war/conflict were over. Imperial Japan's objective was to expand their empire, the United States objective was to prevent that and of the axis in general. We all know how WW2 ended. In the floran/avian conflict, the floran objective was to spread, multiply, etc, the Avian objective was to prevent floran expansion. The florans did expand, the avians failed to prevent expansion. I would call that a floran victory.
"Florans won a war against the technologically advanced avians, and this was just after they left their home planet so their numbers would be low." Nope.
Obviously Avians came to the forums and saw how ineffective florans actually are and decided to let them alone. Throw the green elves a bone.
I mean it didn't happen. Avians accidentally all over the Floran planet, then they assimilated the technology and started spreading. Currently in the lore, there is a war between the Floran "Fleets" and the Avian Fleet... as well as other faction fleets I think.
Exactly, they'd just started spreading to other worlds. So I'd imagine they had a considerably lower overall population and numbers of warriors than the Avian ((Empire)) This is getting off topic though. My overall point was that people shouldn't treat floran factions and militarily inferior to the others. I've had United Systems characters act like florans are weak and easy to fight and kill and floran tribes are easily wiped out because of the primitive lifestyle of florans, whilst the lore says that florans would put up a hell of a fight quite competently.
