Hey all! I just joined this RP server after my old one died a slow death due to inactivity. This time around, I decided to check out one with a large player base and a long history - and this one seemed like the one for me! The community you guys have developed here is just captivating - so much world-building goes on in the forums alone. And the guys on Teamspeak are all awesome too. And, the mods still take the time to help everyone, even though they're understaffed. That kind of dedication is rare on internet forums.

Since I took so much time to write it, I guess I'll post my character sheet (registration) here so anyone I RP with can publicly access it:

Race: Human (White)

Appearance Description: A metaphorical dwarf of a man, with a stocky face and a salt-and-pepper wispy moustache. Resting on his large nose are thick, goggle-like spectacles that protect his eyes from dangerous chemicals and flying debris particles. He wears a long, flowing white coat that reach his feet, with sleeves and cuffs slightly too long and large for his limbs, giving him a quality of absent-minded scholar-hood. He wears white gloves when conducting field research, and when working in his lab. Underneath his over-sized lab coat he wears a dark green sweater-vest, and black slacks. On his feet you will usually find a pair of thick, black, work boots.

Occupation: William is a logician by disposition and trade, making his pixels by designing novel decision circuitry, licensed to private clients and small businesses alike. His base of operations is the Logos, a retro-fitted asteroid made into a portable, but slow-moving laboratory that he bought from a pirate in the neighboring sector. When he isn't publishing papers on decision circuit theory, he's out in the field researching new materials and alloys to work with.

Backstory: William hails from a small planet in a nearby sector named Terminus. Its chief attraction is its relatively well-developed economy; the main export is technological innovation. This is how he learned to ply his trade, you see; Terminus has the reputable, but obscure "Terminus University of Engineering Sciences", or TUES (pronounced, "two's") as its students and alumni refer to it. After he graduated, he started a business, and over the years it grew successful. But the health and vigor of William waned, as he became drudged with the minutiae of business management and lost sight of his original goal, his true passion. He realized this. Leaving his entire business to his son, he used nearly all of his personal savings to buy an asteroid retro-fitted with ion boosters from a disreputable space pirate, seeking adventure. And yet, he still can't quite suppress the capitalistic tendencies he has developed over the years...

Personality Weaknesses: William is a flighty, arrogant braggart that, despite his age, still has naive notions of 'adventure'. As he has just left Terminus and started his journey, he has not been married with the harsh reality associated with going out on ones own. He is prone to making poor, spur of the moment decisions, and despite his business prowess, has a decided lack of personal financial sense. In short, he is unprepared for the unique brand of chaos and brutality the edge of the galaxy can offer.

Current Plans: He will likely begin to perform field research at the planet he is currently orbiting for materials composition and type. Alternatively, he will seek out volunteers for a set of user interfacing experiments with a new circuit design. Or rather yet, he will go to the market and restock his station with fuel and fresh bio-support supplies using some of the last pixels he has left.

Hypothetical Situation Responses

A burly, angry drunkard swings an unexpected punch towards your character.

In his youth, he took wrestling classes as they matched his physical build well. Despite this, he is neither agile nor strong as he used to be and takes the hit painfully. If it's a blow to the head, he might be unconscious. If it's a blow to the gut or generally anywhere else, he will quickly overcome his shock and attempt to flee (As any reasonable adult would). If successful, he will call local authorities to the scene after he catches his breath.

A couple of mischievous punks whisper hateful things about your character behind their back.

He's the new-comer in town, and the local kid punks are just having a go at the odd new guy. He's an adult, and can very well ignore the ramblings of children. If something physical gets initiated, though, he will show the new generation that old dogs can still have a few tricks up their sleeve.

A deranged bandit draws a concealed weapon on your unprepared character.

His immediate objective is to determine the desire of the bandit; whether this is a mugging, or an act of revenge, or a random act of violence. He immediately offers any valuables and possessions he has on hand, such as his watch. If possible, he negotiates with the bandit with his years of business and customer experience.

A sleazy but believable conman attempts to convince your character to pay a 3000 pixel fine for loitering.

As William has a healthy respect for the law, a lack of financial sense, and naive trust in strangers, he will likely pay the fine.

Your character stumbles upon a group of 4 armed thugs mugging an innocent, helpless civilian.

If the planet he is on has trust-worthy law enforcement, he immediately calls them and informs them of the situation and location. If not, he quickly leaves the area.

A known evil-doer casually enters the area dressed in a clever disguise.

As mentioned before, his situational awareness is quite bad for someone on the frontier; he hails from a developed world and is simply not prepared to see through disguises and recognize the disreputable person.

A group of bandits are discretely discussing their next attack in a nearby, but secluded room.

He uses his years of experience as an international spy to listen in on their conversation, and glean knowledge of their target. By this I mean, he unskillfully stumbles in on their conversation, startles the bandits, and then runs away quickly.

A rude individual yells insults and threats towards your character, though appears to be unarmed.

No individual is unarmed as long as he has his fists. William shows caution, and determines the nature and reasons behind the verbal attack. If possible, he talks them down and offers his skill as a masseuse. This angers them into a frenzy, forcing him to run.
