So I was playing around with a Room Flooding mechanic I want to use for an event later on. I wanted to see just how far I could go before stressing the server. And don't worry, I was the only one on!
Turns out, "Any reasonable number" will do. Check this out :)

it works on any liquid, yea. You can do it in single player by typing /admin then /spawnliquid healingliquid #

you need rights to do it on the server though. The way it works is that I compressed all 100,000 blocks of healing water into one square. when i popped the top off, it all decompresses to 1:1 instead of 1:100,000.

on Orion's Edge they used to script that on certain planets to create a 'geyser.' Naturally though, this caused a lot of lag. Perhaps weather can be scripted?

I could see that being used that way.

well the volume of water from this is probably much higher than what OE was using. assuming you don't mind the MASSIVE flooding, it would work yes :)

no, the geyser went on for probably five minutes every hour or so. It was far, far more massive and large-scale than what you have, and it was arranged in the landscape in a way that was aesthetically pleasing. This is a good start though.

Yea that sounds like more lag than I would want to deal with.

They have it set to drain off at a certain point with invisible drains. It's actually very clever and gives the illusion that there's a lot of water moving all the time.
