    Race
    AI

    Name
    Nihili

    Brief Description
Nihili is a stationary AI, locked to a core. The core can vary in location but in general it requires plenty -- and ever increasing -- amounts of processing power.

Abilities or Features Granted by Custom Race

    - Is locked to a stationary core. Currently in a highly secured core, however it used to be in a series of increasingly dangerous cores where it could be easily killed by a wandering passerby.
    - Generally connects to things from the core. Currently, it is a drone. However drones are expensive and if lost, it may have to rely on phones and PDAs.
    - Is skilled at all things digital, at the cost of having little to no physical presence, barring the drone. I completely refuse a humanoid body for the character.
    - Nihili is a paranoid, self-pitying wreck.

If the character used a humanoid body, the remote drone thing may be a problem. As it doesn't, however, it may be acceptable. Gimme some details about these drones. They strong? Got weapons? What are they made of? How many does the AI currently have?

Also, is the AI housed on a ship or on a planet? The remote drones shouldn't be able to drift too far from the main system, for the sake of fairness and making sense.

It's currently planetside, Nihili does not own a ship and instead relies on teleporters. So far Nihili has 1 (1) combat drone that contains a single light machine gun with a 100 round belt. It's a beast in close combat, but is useless once you're outside of close combat. It's also fairly fragile if you hit it from behind or the side, while frustratingly hard to damage from the front due to the large frontal shield.

Would it be possible to have the drone need to land and set up on a bipod of sorts before firing? Doesn't seem fun or fair to have a machine gun flying around.

Also, regarding the core, what planet is it on? How does it move between planets?

Well, it's kinda hella inaccurate to begin with given that it's trying to shoot something while flying, which is why I said it's only useful in close quarters. It needs to get up in your face to the point where it could meatshot you with a shotgun to hit you.

The core is completely and utterly stationary, currently contained in the old TC base. It cannot be moved from planet to planet. It's just plain unmovable and entirely bolted down.

That would mean Nihili is limited to that base and only that base. Having a drone go away from the core to another planet and still somehow be able to communicate across lightyears to the core is unrealistic, and essentially makes the character unkillable unless the attacker somehow knows about the core and its location.

This is the same treatment that's been given to everyone else who has applied, I'm not about to start making exceptions. If we're allowing this for one character we have to allow it for all of them.

Character approved after a lengthy explanation and discussion in Discord. Main points
    • Drones are small and usually physically useless.
    • The single combat drone is unwieldy and inaccurate.
    • Drones are fragile and expensive to replace.
    • Drones appear on planets via beam transportation, which can be identified and the signals traced back to the core.
    • Signals are transmitted over huge distances instantaneously using the principles of quantum entanglement.
    • The core has a limited supply of drones to send to planets.
