EDIT: Original idea from this thread: http://community.playstarboundrp.com/threads/ic-social-media.6936/ Hello, everyone! I wanted to make an announcement asking for input about an application that I've been working on (albeit slowly) for the past month or so. The idea is to create a sort of Twitter-like application, but themed and set in the Starbound universe. I haven't officially named it yet, but the development name is Chirp. It has no intended use outside of roleplay within Starbound. It will initially be limited to Antares, but if it proves popular, I may release the source code for the server commands. Some of the planned features include: Ability to write short status messages on a profile (140 character limit) Keep a timeline of all previous status messages Follow other profiles Build a timeline including the status messages of other profiles Favorite and save other statuses Re-share other statuses Upload a profile picture and fillout a bio Use hashtags to denote trends and popular topics Shoutout to other profiles with the @ symbol Allow server-side commands to update status, such as /status "I'm flying through Space! Wheee!" Switch between multiple characters without having to create multiple accounts Timeline, favorites, follows etc. display differently depending on which character you're currently using So my question is, is there significant interest in something like this? I don't want to invest into building it unless people would use it. Additionally, because motivation is difficult for me and a lot of my time is spent job hunting or being depressed, I want to open up a donation goal for this project to help keep me moving forward on it. I could also use the money to help pay my bills. Would that be okay? I'd love your input, comment below. Cheers, Kazyyk
Eyh, I don't think we should try to make a Twitter Website...It could end badly, but that's only from reading blogs and stuff, All the hate that festers.
I definitely think this would be an interesting idea, and I see no reason why a donation button would be an issue. Factions could potentially find this application extremely useful when organizing their members for different events, so my vote is yes.
It's not illegal to make a similar social media platform, particularly since I'm not trying to make money with it. It'd be different if I was trying to create a competitor platform and get into the social media market, but a small platform specific to one video game and the roleplay genre is so niche it's not a threat. EDIT: I'll also likely end up adding features that make it different enough to qualify as it's own platform instead of a Twitteresque application.
And after days more people will use it for non rp stuff and youre gonna be like this guy from face book rich and famous
