Welcome, Jack.> ------------------------------------------------------ Users > Jack > Files > Past > Court > case.virl [A video loads. This appears to be from the perspective of a cybernetic eye. The owner of said eye is looking down at a ragged-looking fit young man with dark brown hair covering one eye. He appears unconscious. He is prodded by a menacing-looking device by a burly man in kevlaresque armor. He instantly jolts upwards, and screams and jerks involuntarily for a few seconds before regaining his composure. As the eye refocuses, you see the man is shackled to the chair he is sitting in. He appears broken, as if he had lost all will to live. Suddenly, there is a voice.] "Jack Harbinger. You stand accused of one charge of murder in the first degree, innumerable charges of murder in the third degree and manslaughter, obstructing the commerce of a planet, harming the environment of a planet, and voluntary injury of innumerable people. How do you plead?" [The shackled man looks up at the owner of the eye, gaze filled with hatred, pain and outrage. He speaks in a hoarse voice filled with emotion.] "That is bullshit. We both know I didn't kill her, and we both know I didn't cut the planet's communications. I don't know what you have against me, Bernard, but you are condemning an innocent person to death so you don't have to admit your policing is fla-" [The shackled man is prodded with the device again, and you can see lightning arc out of its tip into him. He screams.] "How do you plead?" "Innocent, you sadistic bastard." "Very well then. Present the evidence." [The footage for the next hour or so is a long-winded presentation of circumstantial evidence that is flimsy at best and a lie at worst. However, you are able to piece together what happened.] -Jack Harbinger, the defendant, was on a planet with his sister, a prominent xenoevolution expert. While on the planet, the planet's satellite network was hacked with a virus called the Eden Virus, which destroys the 'moral code' imprinted in AI. -After six months, the Eden Virus crisis had ended and Jack was found carrying his sister's corpse to the ruins of their house. -Jack was heavily wounded, while she wasn't. Her injuries consisted of a single shot to the head. -Jack had been accused of killing her, due to his proximity and the fact that he had been serving in a different military than the empire she was part of. [After the prosecutor sat down, Jack stood up and made a speech to the audience.] "I did not kill her. I am a mechanic, not a hacker, and Khanri is allied with Austranum. I loved her more than life itself. ANY of you who knew me knew I harbored no jealousy, no hatred, no anger towards my sister. I would never kill her, much less hurt her, and you all know that. I idolized her. She was the reason I became a field medic in the first place. I wanted to do as much good as she was doing. I do not know who killed her. It's anyone's guess as who did. I DO know who did, and that's Bernard. Austranum has been searching for an excuse to attack Khanri ever since their royal family mingled with ours. But why must innocent people die? To justify a meaningless genocide? And why did SHE have to die? Her work is the reason your grandparents will live for another twenty years! She had no ill intent, her work couldn't be weaponized, all she did was save lives! I killed once. I can't do it again." [He sits down. The owner of the eye stands up. He is making transactions with a few people.] "The jury will now decide." [A few of the jury members are held at gunpoint until they charge him guilty; others look on with a greedy smile.] "Guilty." "Guilty." "G-guilty. (Sorry, Jack...)" "Guilty." And so on. [Jack is taken out of the room. The video file ends.] ------------------------------------------------------ <Compiling...> <Compiling complete. I should fix my eye. ... God, I'm such a mess. I need Alisha back. But she's. Not. Here. [sobbing] Why... why did she leave... why did she have to dieeeee... *sniffle* I'm-I'm okay. It's okay. We're good. I can't stay here. But I can't go to Khanri. I can't go to uncharted space. I should find somewhere inhabited. Somewhere far away... ...She used to sing that... ...No. I'm not gonna do this for the billionth time. She's gone, I'm done, we're good. Mh? Antares sector? Seems far enough away. Wonder which races have colonized here. ... Computer, set course for the Antares sector. Welcome, Jack.> ------------------------------------------------------ Users > Jack > Files > Antares > Month 1 > Day3.doc [[yes, he has word]] I helped someone today. An Avian by the name of Ziggy Downsilk. He was nice. He got trapped on a ship and broke a rib, so I fixed it, and he was tougher than anyone I've ever seen with the pain. Most of my patients, hardened soldiers, passed out from the pain. Aside from that, I worked on Alacrity. The resource mine is completed, and I have starship docks in the hangar above. I also ordered a sword today. It's made of something I can't pronounce. That's all that happened today. Pretty relaxing. Users > Jack > Files > Antares > Month 1 > Day4.doc I met Ziggy again, and we talked briefly. He is a really nice person. I didn't do much else but hang around Gryphon's Peak. Oh, and yesterday, a Glitch got drunk. They hit on the person who was selling the sword and a nice lady by the name of Cateth who worked the bar. It was embarrasing as hell. That was pretty much all that happened today. Users > Jack > Files > Antares > Month 1 > Day5.doc I told Ziggy about Austranum and Eden and my sister. He seemed to take it better than I expected, and now I'm his friend. Those are something I desperately need during these times. I also met a nice lady by the name of Ion. [[these are short b/c I had a lot on my mind last weekend. I was doing a report for school and shit was stressful. Sorry if they're simplistic.]] ------------------------------------------------------ <Compiling...> <Compiling complete.
