Border checkpoint re-opened after pirate's defeat
Just under a week ago, Border Checkpoint Vg16 came under attack from pirates, forcing the checkpoint to close down and increase defenses. Millions of pixels worth of damage was sustained, to both the station and civilian crafts during the attack. Fortunately, there were no casualties. COV led forces had been organizing in the area for a counter-attack, which was executed late last night.

Led by Commodore Richard T. Pittman, a COV battle group swept into the pirate controlled space outside the checkpoint and fought for a decisive victory. Nine pirate vessels were destroyed, one was captured, and numerous other craft fled the area. Pittman's forces continued to scan throughout the sector until this afternoon, when the threat was officially declared to be eliminated and the checkpoint opened back up.

However, for some, this victory is not enough to offer any peace of mind. Captain Rhynalt, one of many cargo haulers held up by the pirates, said, "I ain't gonna ship here no more if they just up and leave after this. It's still dangerous!"

Many people seem to hold concerns that the pirates will simply return after things have calmed down once again. COV security forces have not made any official statements regarding security measures after the attack, so whether or not the Council will increase protection on fringe trading routes is yet to be known.

On the positive side, travel and trade are as unrestricted as ever in the outskirts of Council space. Enjoy, fringe residents!
