Hey folks, after a bit of tweaking on Kaz's end, we've implemented a new backup system. If it's working right, server restarts should take around 30 seconds to a minute instead of the old ten minutes they used to. Let us know if everything seems to be fine!
And here I was all proud about how I'd mastered the reset times. Still, good on ya. What are the exact specifics? I remember the old system involved backing up everything and that's why it took so long, but what exactly is different?
I went by the rule: 12 minutes on the hour and it was back up, worked fine for me! curious on the details, too.
The new backup system uses a tool that allows us to back up the universe data while the server is running without causing corruption. The backup system is also incremental. This means we can increase the frequency of backups regardless of server restart time, and provide closer backup points for us to roll back to. More details on that to be released.
crashes getting more severe, intermittent lag during the little 5 - 10 mins we're in the server. what up?
I think I will be, if the planet is was working on has been wiped. Haven't been on in a while, hope my planet doesn't get delet
Yes, since the new backup system is incremental, more space is saved. I've disabled the 1-week expiry limit as of... two minutes ago. Unfortunately, any expired planets before just now will still have been deleted. However, they may be in an old backup.
