The only evidence to these events are the carved scars across almost her entire body. She claims that seasalt was smothered into the gashes as penance for wrongdoings. Over time she'd become accustomed to the sensation, actively seeking it out. Though there is no evidence to support this claim, Cerrie states that she was with the Floran tribe for roughly a year before colonial expansion reached the village. The Florans were seen as ferals and exterminated. Cerrie was "rescued". She has no explicit memory of how, but she came into possession of a starship and fled the system to Antares.

I see you are correct, Bipolar type SAD would have been a more accurate description. A close friend of mine has SAD and has always referred to it as Schizophrenia, so I was under the impression that it was a sub-category of Schizophrenia, not a different type. Her time spent with the Florans was genuinely beneficial to her emotional stability, though not useful to her social skills. They did genuinely care for her and support her, however they way in which they did was not universally good.
