    http://community.playstarboundrp.com/threads/savage-floran-attack-on-katune.9191/

Greeting. Greetings kinsman, Floran, Human, Apex, Avian, Hylotl or Novakid reading this.
Informative. Above is a news article about a Floran who was attacked by a Human, where the assailant was killed in self-defense, and then, as the topic implies, the Floran devoured the Human.

Request. I feel like a discussion is in order, as this topic has been mentioned multiple times over my year on this sector.
Curiosity. What are the stances of different sentient species on consumption of their own species' flesh, consumption of other sentient species' flesh, and what is the reasoning behind the stance for each species?

Gratitude. In hopes of a civilized discussion.
Departing. Thank you for your time.

I'm fairly certain only the Floran engage in hunting sapients and eating their flesh, as well as cannibalism.

Response. To the two first replies, the questions were "Stance on the matter?", and "Why the stance on the matter?".

Floran eats floran to show respect at funeral. Usually not eat all of them, bury rest and plant flower on grave.

Floran eat meat because its tasty and give floran energy.

Exactly. Why waste good meat by just burying in ground? No one use it, and will just rot in ground if don't eat. Food is food, don't matter where from. Location of where eat can matter though.

The fact that it is not practiced amongst the other species should suffice an answer. We do not approve of it.

I mean, I get a little cringey about the thought of being ripped to shreads and eaten for what little meat my body has, but that Militantmaneater user does make that point about the body going to waste in the ground. For humans I guess it's just kind of a respect thing to have the body naturally decompose as a whole in a spot that others will always know about, as opposed to being digested in someone else's stomach.

But I suppose for us to say "FLORAN EAT INSENTIENT FOOD ONLY NOW. FLORAN BE BANISHED OTHERWISE." would be like if Earth's governments started hunting down religious people like animals ultimately because they were sick of putting up with the burden of morals and the very concept of a higher spiritual authority.

    Oh wait.

But you do approve of ritual sacrifice, I'm guessing?

Being a Grounded? No. I don't. Even amongst the Flightless there are those who approve and disapprove of the practice, though it goes on with the religious view of the Priesthood. But eating the meat of fellow sapients is outlawed and looked down upon save for an insignificant number of crazies, so, no, it is most certainly not approved of. There must be proper funerary rites and entombment for their souls to reach the Aether.

Except that Florans don't believe in the Aether. They also aren't wasteful of resources, such as food. Be it an animal, a person, perhaps even another Floran...

I never said the Floran should stop. I'm saying the Avians do not approve of plucking cannibalism and explained why. That was the question asked here, now.

I cannot speak for my entire race, but I view it as a despicable, primal practice. The Winged Arbiter did not allow us higher knowledge and help us forward so we could indulge in such base butchery.

The reason is because I have been taught rightly so that it is a sinful and revolting act, but I do believe that even if I had not been taught this way I would not be able to stomach the thought of eating my own kin, or another being who could walk, think, and feel like I.

*A pink Novakid appears on the video, seems like its a female*

    - Oy ! If the floran had eaten th'human without good motives, now I would say no, of course !
But the floran ate a criminal who shot her, I mean if someone had shot you how would ya' react folks ?
Even ma self I woul' try defend ma' life ! *Serious tone* and anywa' a criminal isn't able to use self defence if he's one.
Criminals must be punished and he already had a gun out if i'm right. So killin a potential murderer and confirmed thief is no big deal !

    - So, agreed eatin' people is different for our view of point but I think it was for purpose of revenge/debt for shootin' at her.
I woul' be mad if someon' shot me.

*She looks away for a moment*

    - Oh HEY my fue's right ther' !

    *The video ends*

Defiling the remains of those who have passed is disrespectful to their memory. Dead should be honored and remembered for the lives they lived, not remembered because of how they tasted.

The concern over "not being wasteful" is rather inapplicable in this scenario. In a galaxy of plenitude, one should not be concerned about wasting what little energy the corpse of a fellow sapient can offer one's digestive system. There are plenty of local commercial food sources, let alone the countless numbers of consumable non-sapient flora and fauna all over the galaxy.

My people have always respected our ancestors and the dead, not because it is practical or energy-efficient, but because it is right. Honor their lives and memories, and leave their bodies to rest.
