Meh. It's not like half the people these days have their Smart Phones talking to them these days anyways.
I'd say leave it to personal choice of the players and ship providers. I'm probably, at most, going to lightly roleplay the game AI's on my current ship since they wouldn't contribute very much to my existing stories.

Smart phones are a thing as well, but not nearly everyone these days has them. (I only just got one last Christmas. So slow.) Furthermore, not even everyone RPs having a ship, let alone an AI for it. I guess it should probably just be up to personal choice depending on what your character would reasonably have. Which means that some of us won't have one because don't even have a ship, some won't have one because their ship's too basic or cheap, some will have one because it's more high-tech, aaaaand some will have an AI that is actually the mind of the clone of their dead father which they killed after the USCM torched their hometown to the ground, which is also able to hack into other ships and bypass beaming restrictions, and can also shoot lasers. ...C'est la vie.
What about an AI that is actually my LIVING MOTHER that somehow had her thoughts transferred into a computer and manifested into the form of a giant female horse without hooves, and that can also fly?

Well lorewise, Floran starter ships are meant to be stolen/salvaged human starter ships, aren't they?
They look more like stolen Apex ships, actually. But with the ship upgrades and everything, the floran ships are a combination of ALL of the other ships. So one of the human parts could easily be a modified human AI.
