What happened to humanity's disgust of surveillance?

Hello, I was researching human history, when I found something.... Interesting. Apparently during the 21st century on the human homeworld, there was almost a war of sorts against surveillance. Apparently human governments were encroaching on the privacy of its citizens. While I don't have any more findings on what happened afterwards, it seems that they gave up. I visit Olympus, and see more cameras than I can count. Coming from someone whose whole life has been observed, and will continue to be, why?

This surveillance guarantees that whenever a malicious action of performed, the colony will record it and identify those involved. This allows them to prevent such things happening in future by preparing for repeats and ensuring those who committed such malicious actions are removed from the colony or detained. It in no way is intended to breach privacy, but rather to ensure it. Hylotl cities use a similar, albeit more advanced, version of this system. It works.

I don't give a shit about cameras, they can't do nothing to me if I've done nothing wrong man.

Am I the only one who agrees? While I'm not a human, i find it kind of distressing that I can't take ten steps on Olympus without getting filmed by a little box on a wall or ceiling somewhere. Did we agree sometime in the last month that privacy should be abolished? I'm sure there's a decent explanation for it but still, I have my rights to not get filmed constantly.

Constant filming allows for corporations to sell private information to better advertise product directly to individuals. This causes an economic boon for those intelligent enough to capitalize on it. I highly suggest being more intelligent. It is a worthwhile experience.

Constant filming can also provide blackmail opportunities. I certainly don't trust Triton to keep my acts secret, thus Olympus is not a colony I can really fully enjoy. So much surveillance is a problem.

Few words... Quit whining about it, or don't come to the colony. I for one trust triton and believe they are doing it to keep everyone on the planet safe. But for those who don't like just being watched by cameras, deal with it or piss off.

Your thinly veiled insult doesn't go unnoticed.

That is like such a situation displayed below.
"The sickness in this colony is spreading at an alarming rate; perhaps we should make a quarantine."
"If you don't like it, leave."

It is still disliked, is it not?
Answering disapproval with "Get out" is no way to help with change.

It's meaningless to try and debate with them, more often than not I receive the answer similar to, "I don't like what you're saying, so shut up/ get out."
Nothing we say will change their minds, because they've already decided not to change them.
