Will be mostly underwater/underground. On either an Ocean or Frozen Ocean planet. Entrance is an aboveground lighthouse that has an elevator that goes all the way to the ocean floor. There are different tiers of construction. The closer to the bottom of the ocean the darker the area outside the colony becomes. Large sea creatures can be seen outside the many windows of the colony. The western end of the colony is mostly decrepit from lack of maintenance. Some areas are flooded, others have flickering lights or ankle high water. The entire superstructure of the colony is supported by industrial grade construction beams. Areas for shops and such can be requisitioned via the Chamber of Commerce. Entertainment areas such as a large bar, a Casino, and in the darker areas of the city, a sleazy (PG-13) brothel are planned.
Something that really frustrates me about islands in this game is their formation. An island doesn't taper like that under the surface; The island itself is like the peak of a mountain. Sand doesn't just miraculously float together. And they sure as hell wouldn't hold buildings properly. Now what you could do is build support structures from the sea floor all the way up to the island that would justify it being held in place like that.
Well all of the structure is held up by rigid steel construction beams. And in real life Islands normally extend from the sea floor to the surface due to volcanos.

I would like to see that. Also what would be cool to see is that (mentioned just above) and the colony build on an ice ocean using the volcano for Geo-thermal heating/power for the air, water, etc.
I could redesign the plans based on this kind of design. But I'd still need more people in the build team. Creating a volcanic mountain/island isnt going to be the easiest thing in the universe.
Why create an island when you can settle on a perfectly decent "naturally formed" one (just make it realistic yourself) at like zero terraforming cost? I dont see much point to making a piece of rock supported by some steel memes.
I can't find what are memes of steel. Is it actually a construction material ? Or is it an inside joke... or something ? Because in normal terms I checked on google and steel can't be melt by lava.
A meme is an internet denotation of popularity. The line is parodying "Rocket Fuel can't melt Steel beams" 9/11 meme. So therefore, Lava can't melt Steel Memes.
How does someone on the internet not know what a meme is...? Anyway, I just want to know if you're actually going to go through with the land-on-stilts idea, or if your going to have a more geologically legitimate island (or archipelago, even)
Ah right, I knew about ''memes'' but I though for a moment that it was also something else about construction material, but I was fooled.
I'm feelin' the Bioshock vibe from the plans of this colony. Lighthouse to a decrepid underground city-place?
